The Sad Rainbow and the Grumpy Cloud
Once upon a time, high above a little town nestled between rolling green hills, lived a colorful rainbow named Rina and a big, fluffy cloud named Clumpy. Rina, with her vibrant bands of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet, loved to shine after every rain shower, bringing joy to everyone below. Clumpy, on the other hand, spent his days feeling rather grumpy. He didn't like the rain that made him droop, and he certainly didn't like how cheerful Rina was, always bouncing in the sky after he was done crying.
For years, Rina and Clumpy had coexisted. Rina would appear after Clumpy's storms, but they never really talked. Clumpy just grumbled and drifted around, while Rina brightly arched over him. Rina would try to share her colors, hoping they might make Clumpy feel better, but Clumpy just turned away. He didn’t understand why Rina was so happy, and he didn't think he ever could be. He was a cloud, after all, and clouds were supposed to be… well, cloudy.
One day, a little bird named Pip was caught in one of Clumpy’s storms. Pip tumbled and twirled, his feathers soaked and heavy. When the storm stopped, Pip was exhausted and sad. He landed on Rina’s yellow stripe, shivering. Rina, seeing Pip's distress, felt a pang in her heart. She wanted to help him, but she couldn't reach him.
Looking over at Clumpy, Rina saw that even though he looked grumpy, he seemed a little worried. So, she took a deep breath and called out, “Clumpy! Pip needs help! Can you give him a little bit of sunshine to dry his feathers?”
Clumpy was surprised. He was used to Rina ignoring him. But the sound of sadness in Rina’s voice and the sight of the shivering bird made him do something he hadn't done in a long time: he gently moved a little to let the sunshine through. A warm patch of sunlight bathed Pip, and he began to chirp and preen his feathers. He thanked Rina and Clumpy and then took flight, soaring into the sunny sky.
That day, Clumpy understood something. It wasn't that Rina was happy, it was that she found joy in making others happy, and he had helped make someone happy too! He still didn’t feel like doing cartwheels, but he didn’t feel so grumpy. Rina and Clumpy still coexisted, with Rina shining bright after the storm, but now they shared moments of kindness, working together to help those below, and slowly, Clumpy’s heart started to feel a little bit more… sunny.
