The Mystery of the Missing Map
Barnaby Button was a cheerful, if slightly clumsy, young inventor. One rainy afternoon, a mysterious parrot named Polly landed on his windowsill, squawking about a secret map and a group of sneaky squirrels trying to steal it. Before Barnaby could ask any questions, Polly suddenly went still, a tiny, perfectly round hole appearing on her chest. Barnaby was shocked! Now, the town guard was convinced Barnaby had done something terrible. He had to clear his name! Following a clue Polly had managed to get out, he raced to the library, a place the squirrels would certainly avoid. Barnaby discovered a hidden message in a picture book! He learned that the map wasn't for treasure, it was the town's special cookie recipe, the recipe they used to make treats every year for the Great Picnic! The squirrels wanted to ruin everything! This led Barnaby on a chase across the countryside. He dodged grumpy hedgehogs, outsmarted crows who tried to steal his lunch, and even hitched a ride on a runaway wheelbarrow! He met a kind and clever fox named Fiona who helped him decipher more clues. It turned out the squirrels weren't so sneaky after all, they were just confused! They thought they were protecting the trees from a dangerous new kind of fungus that they had only glimpsed a picture of, which looked oddly like cookies. Together, Barnaby, Fiona, and even the squirrels, who had only misunderstood, found the map, which was never truly lost, hidden safely in the old bakery. And when they showed the squirrels the actual cookies, all ended well. The Great Picnic was saved. Barnaby became the town hero, and even though he'd never asked for it, he now had a group of woodland friends who often helped him with his inventions.
