The Little Wooden Friend
Old Mr. Carvings was a kind toymaker with a workshop filled with the scent of sawdust and varnish. One day, he finished carving a special puppet from a piece of warm, golden wood. This puppet, whom he named Willow, had bright, painted eyes and a cheerful smile. Suddenly, something magical happened! Willow blinked, then wiggled his wooden fingers. He was alive! Mr. Carvings was overjoyed.
Willow loved to play, but sometimes he struggled to make good choices. He was so curious! One day, a group of playful but slightly mischievous woodland sprites invited Willow to join their games in the Whispering Woods. "Come with us!" they giggled, "We'll have so much fun!". Willow, eager to experience more of the world, went with them.
They played hide-and-seek with the fireflies, and chased each other through the tall grass, but their game turned into a bit of trouble. The sprites accidentally trampled through Mrs. Badger's prize-winning berry bushes! Mrs. Badger was very upset, and she told Willow that he wasn't making good choices.
Willow felt ashamed. He missed Mr. Carvings and realized being a 'good' wooden friend was more than just having fun. He rushed home to Mr. Carvings and confessed all that had happened.
Mr. Carvings was a little sad but hugged Willow tight. He told Willow that being a 'good' friend means being honest, kind, and helpful, not just running into trouble. Willow understood.
From that day on, Willow made an effort to do good things. He helped Mr. Carvings in his workshop, he shared his toys with other children, and he even helped Mrs. Badger repair her berry bushes. He learned that being a good friend was the best kind of adventure, and it made his heart feel as warm as the golden wood he was made of.
