The Colorful Lanterns and the Little Artist

Long ago, in a land filled with twisting rivers and towering mountains, lived a kind girl named Mei. Her family owned the most magical lantern shop in the village, filled with glowing paper lanterns of every color imaginable. Mei loved helping her family, especially creating her own tiny lanterns that looked like little animals.

One sunny afternoon, while hanging lanterns outside her shop, Mei saw a young boy named Lin painting with charcoal on the stone walls. His drawings were full of playful monkeys and soaring birds. Mei was amazed by his talent. Lin, shy but friendly, loved to draw but never had colored paints.

Mei and Lin became friends. Mei would give Lin the paper scraps from the lanterns, and Lin would fill them with his incredible drawings. He would dream of using the beautiful colors of the lanterns on his drawings. However, Mei's grandmother, a wise but very strict woman, had very specific ideas. She said that Mei must marry someone who owns their own shop in the town and should not be friends with someone poor like Lin.

Mei was heartbroken. She loved Lin's beautiful drawings and she couldn’t imagine her life without her friendship. She secretly continued to see Lin, and one day, Lin had a brilliant idea. He used special charcoal dust to make his drawings glow under the light of Mei's lanterns! He painted the walls of the shop and the whole village came out to see the amazing glowing pictures of animals and flowers dancing in the night! Mei's grandmother was so impressed, she smiled for the first time in a very long while. She realized that art, like the lanterns, could bring so much happiness and that Lin was a wonderful boy. She accepted their friendship, and even offered Lin a job painting on her lanterns. From that day on, the village was known for both beautiful lanterns and the glowing artwork on its walls, and Mei and Lin continued their friendship forever.
